Bates Method For Better Eyesight - Improve Your Eyesight Naturally
By Selin Aydoshan
William Bates dedicated a life time of research to improving people's eyesight by natural means through understanding and eye exercises. Today, whilst many people use his methods, it still isn't a mainstream treatment - if you go to an Optician then they may give you a couple of eye exercises to do in the first instance, but more often than not you'll be prescribed a pair of glasses.
Glasses Aren't The Best Option
Glasses only cover the problem and in reality make the eyes worse in the long run. When you use glasses you are using a man made device to refract light - the job that the eye is supposed to do. If you assist it in such a manner, the eye becomes lazy and the muscles that were already sub-optimal get even weaker. That's why it's very common for people who wear glasses to have eyesight that deteriorates over the years. It's a very "short-sighted" approach to eye care. What really rubs salt into the wounds is that you'll be paying on average around $500 per year for the rest of your life for the privilege of making your eye sight worse.
Laser Surgery is Like Russian Roulette with your Eyes
There's no doubting that laser eye surgery is quite a step forward in optical technology and hats off to whoever invented the machine, however it does have negatives. The problem with LASIK surgery is that the negatives, whilst uncommon, are very serious, life changing negatives that could leave you blinded, partially sighted, with blurred vision or a recurring infection. Whilst the odds of this happening are slim, it does still happen and that's enough to scare me away from ever going for this kind of operation. What's more you'll have a much lighter wallet as a typical operation on both eyes will cost you somewhere in the region of $5,000.
Your Final Option is to Use Natural Ways to Improve your Eyesight
William Bates' method covers two main sections.
Firstly, you'll be taught how your eye should be used and when you're using your eyes wrongly. For instance, you shouldn't ever focus in on an object for longer than a second because this actually damages your vision - our eyes are designed to be constantly moving - concentrating on one single point is bad for you. Of course having used our eyes for however many years, it takes a while to get rid of bad habits, so there are exercises for this.
Secondly, you'll be taught how to strengthen the muscles in the eyes and correct vision problems such as short and long sightedness, lazy eye and blurred vision. These exercises should be done for a few minutes on a daily basis and you'll start to see improvements by the end of the first week.
The great thing about natural eye improvement is that you'll arm yourself with the knowledge to look after your eyes and strengthen them when necessary, it will cost you nothing, there aren't any health risks and you'll be happy to know that your eyesight isn't going to degenerate over time. It's when you consider all these points that you start to realise that it's definitely worthwhile giving natural vision correction a try, because you have nothing to lose and everything to win.
