Lasik Complications That You Must Know

Lasik Complications That You Must Know
By Julianto Mendez

Lasik eye surgery is a phenomenal medical procedure that can change lives. However, you have to know about certain Lasik complications before you schedule an operation with your doctor. Knowing the complications beforehand will give you ideas on what to expect and precautions that you must do in order to avoid problems.

Lasik eye surgery is a medical procedure where doctors permanently change the shape of your cornea using various types of equipment. The most commonly used tool is the excrimer laser. A microkeratome, a specially designed cutting tool, is also used to cut the flap of the cornea. This procedure was developed to reduce the patient's dependency on corrective eye glasses or contact lenses.

However, there are Lasik complications that must be avoided and resolved in order to avoid serious problems as well as keep future vision problems from recurring. Studies show that the patients who suffer complications after the Lasik eye surgery are often just 5% of the population. Some researchers also say that it can be brought down to 1% if resolved through enhancements or laser re-treatments.

The complications that are experienced by patients after surgery are often associated with the improper cutting of a hinged flap in the person's cornea. If the flap was incorrectly cut, it may fail to hold properly to the surface of the eye. This operation can be very difficult and the cutting of the flap depends largely on the ability of the doctor.

This is one reason why you should only choose the best and brightest doctors in the field if you decide to go for a Lasik eye surgery. Going to a top doctor might be a bit costly but it will be worth it because you will no longer have to undergo enhancements or be operated again in case of complications.
